The Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program of the Department of National Defence (DND) is hosting its second annual “IDEaS Marketplace,” which will be held at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, on June 2, 2023, from 9h00 to 16h00.
Last year’s IDEaS Marketplace was a great success with over 400 stakeholders in attendance. The event showcased accomplishments from the Competitive Projects element’s First Call for Proposals with 42 companies presenting their solutions and 49 innovation booths featured on the exhibition floor.
This event aims to create new opportunities for innovators funded through the IDEaS program to present their solutions to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the DND and other potential end users within the public and private sector. Invited guests will include:
- Existing IDEaS stakeholders within the DND and the CAF;
- Representatives of large defence and security firms; and
- Federal and provincial government partners supporting innovation.
In order to be featured at the 2023 IDEaS Marketplace, innovators must have participated and/or completed projects under the following CFPs:
- Competitive Project’s Component 1B of CFP2 and/or CFP3;
- COVID-19 CFP processes; and
- Innovation Network’s final phases of CFPMN1 (Advanced Materials) and/or CFPMN2 (Autonomous Systems).
Each innovator will be provided with a booth on the exhibition floor, and an opportunity to pitch their solution in a five-minute presentation. These dynamic presentations will cover a number of challenges faced by the DND/CAF. Some of the themes include:
- Identifying and countering cyber threats;
- Detection of concealed explosives;
- Maritime surveillance and quantum sensing technologies;
- Communications and ground solutions for combat in the Arctic;
- Tracking and de-orbiting Space debris and protection of satellites from natural and artificial threats;
- Portable power solutions for soldiers on the move;
- Real-time insights for pandemic decision-making;
- Sanitizing cleaning sensitive equipment and workspaces;
- Autonomous systems: Trust and barriers to adoption;
- Advanced materials: Innovation in detection avoidance and physical protection;
- Fast and adaptive logistics planning for military missions;
- and much more!
